Happy World Teachers’ Day!

Did you know that October 5th, 2014 is World Teachers’ Day? We hope that all of our members were able to celebrate it by getting a little R&R on a blustery Sunday, and that they take a little time at some point tomorrow to celebrate with their students.

World Teachers’ Day represents a significant token of the awareness, understanding and appreciation displayed for the vital contribution that teachers make to education and development. On October 5, along with over 100 countries around the world, the Canadian Teachers’ Federation and its Member organizations (of which the Manitoba Teachers’ Society is one, and as such, the Seine River Teacher’ Association as well) across the country celebrate World Teachers’ Day through a public awareness campaign that highlights the contributions of the teaching profession. The CTF public awareness campaign this year centred around the phrase, “It all starts with a qualified teacher!” which aligns with the three Pillars of Quality Education as described by the Unite for Quality Education campaign. These pillars (Quality Teachers, Quality Tools and Quality Environments) represent, “[e]ssential elements of quality education for a successful global future, support for each of these pillars will help to ensure that quality education remains the basis for a sustainable, peaceful and prosperous future.”

A new annual award has been created by the CTF to celebrate World Teachers’ Day, and has been named after former CTF Secretary General Dr. Norman Goble. For more information about the award, please see this news release.
