June News from SRTA

As the hours dwindle down on the last day of the school year, we would like to leave you with a few updates prior to the kickoff of Summer Break:

First, the June 2016 edition of the SRTA Newsletter is ready for viewing.  We will not be printing it and sending to schools, as there won’t be any Members there to read it!  However, this issue is available for download by clicking this link or by visiting our Scribd page. It’s the year-ender, so SRTA President Jonathan Waite takes his opportunity to dole out some well-deserved thanks, and there are also articles from Members who attended PD opportunities in April, May and June. Plus, there’s an informative article addressing the issues related to salary adjustments that we encourage all Members to read.

Second, we’d like to welcome Brian Trenchard from Arborgate School as our incoming Employee Benefits chair. Brian takes the reins with enthusiasm, and we are happy to have him be a part of our SRTA Executive, effective immediately.

Third, we believe that all outstanding reimbursements related to the Health & Wellness and Professional Development funds have been issued. If you feel that you have not received proper reimbursement, please email SRTA President Jonathan Waite (president@srteach.org) with the details. If you are taking part in a summer PD opportunity, Jonathan will be in contact via email to arrange reimbursement of costs related to the PD activity. Applications for the PD fund will be open starting on the first day back (September 8, 2016) and information about the application processes will be sent via the SRTA email list in mid-August.

Over the summer, the SRTA Office in Ste. Anne will be closed, and will officially re-open on September 8, 2016. If you have an issue, you can call or text 204-270-0215 or email Jonathan, but for emergent or urgent issues, please call the Manitoba Teachers’ Society at 1-800-262-8803.

And that’s it! We hope all Members have a very relaxing summer that allows for reflection and rejuvenation. Be well!
